On the Cover: Landscape near the town of Mascota (state of Jalisco, Mexico) at the western end of the presumed Mesoamerican area of domestication of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). Using microsatellite diversity, the single domestication for the Mesoamerican gene pool of common bean can be traced back to wild populations growing in west-central Mexico. In this landscape, wild populations grow near the meandering creek across the center of the photo. The truncated hill in the background is an extinct volcano. See Kwak et al., page 554.
