On the Cover: The Sterling Barrens Natural Area within Governor Knowles State Forest near Cushing, Wisconsin is one example of a remnant tallgrass prairie/oak savanna ecosystem that survived agriculture and urban development of the 20th century, and now acts as a valuable in situ gene bank for switchgrass and possibly other plants native to this ecosystem and region.
