Cover: Scanning electron micrograph of the tall fescue endophyte, Neotyphodium coenophialum, located just under the adaxial surface of the leaf sheath. Hill et al. (1627-1630) developed a monoclonal antibody-based test which is capable of differentiating a nontoxic endophyte in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb) seed and vegetative tissue from other nontoxic and naturally occurring endophytes. Magnification is 4400X. Photograph is by Ho-Jong Ju.
