About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover: Glandular trichomes on `FGplh13' alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), a perennial cultivar with resistance to the potato leafhopper Empoasca fabae (Harris). Glandular-haired alfalfa with resistance to this pest were made commercially available for the first time in 1997. Resistance of FGplh13 alfalfa to nymphal and adult potato leafhoppers is associated with the glandular trichomes, although, the trichomes are only capable of entrapping the early developmental stages of this key forage pest (at bottom). This documents the first time potato leafhopper nymphs have been entrapped by the trichomes on perennial glandular-haired alfalfa. See Ranger and Hower, 1427-1434.
