Cover: Chilling temperatures (about 15°C) at the flowering state of soybean cause brown pigmentation around the hilum region and seed coat cracking, which reduce the commercial value of the seed. Takahashi and Abe (1657-1662) determined that some of the genes responsible for flowering and maturity (D1 and E5) are also associated with the intensity of pigmentation and cracking, which may be useful in conferring tolerance to chilling stress.
