Supplemental Table 1

ESM 1. Ratings of recent Ohio cultivars and breeding lines for aphid resistance in a greenhouse choice test conducted in March, 2006. Fourteen days after infestation with approximately 20-30 aphids/plant, plants were scored on a scale of 1 to 5, where 1=<25 aphids/plant, 2=25-100 aphids/plant, 3=101-200 aphids/plant, 4=201-400 aphids/plant, and 5=>400 aphids/plant. The score shown in the table is the average of 3 replicates (each replicates consisted of 3 seedlings).

Supplementary Table 2. The aphid susceptibility index (ASI) of 155 maturity group IV plant introductions from China. ASI <4.0=resistant, ASI 4.0 to 10.0=moderately resistant, ASI >10.0=susceptible. The aphid susceptibility index (ASI) was calculated by multiplying the aphid score at 14 DAI by the plant damage score at 28 DAI with a possible ASI between 1 and 25.
