Seventy-nine entries representing 16 annual Medicago species were evaluated for resistance to the alfalfa weevil, using resistance to adult feeding, larval development, and ovipositicin tests. M. rugosa had resistance by all three selection criteria. M. minima, M. polymorpha, M. scutellata, and M. truncatula contained entries that were classified as resistant to two of the selection criteria. The ovipositioii resistance of some entries was apparently due either to lack of a stimulant to trigger oviposition or to a deterrent that limited oviposition.
