Auxin Induction and Repression of Peroxidase Isozymes in Oats (Avena sativa)1

C. W. Stuber and C. S. Levings, III2

Eight isoperoxidases separable by electrophoresis were found in subapical coleoptile sections of oats (Avena sativa L.). Appearance of one isozyme was repressed by auxin applications (IAA or 2,4-D). A second isozyme was induced by similar treatment. Genetic variability for the hormone inducible isozyme was demonstrated. Hormone level was critical to both isozyme repression and induction.

Key Words: Indole-3-acetic acid • 2,4-dichlorophenoxy-acetic • Coleoptile
