Genetic analysis showed that high and low peroxidase activity in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) seed coats is controlled by a major gene. This gene, designated Ep, with complete dominance produces high activity and its recessive allele, ep, gives low activity. Control of activity resides in the maternal tissue and not in the endosperm nor in the embryo.
