Chromosomal Location of Rf2, a Restorer Gene for Cytoplasmic Pollen Sterile Maize1

R. J. Snyder and D. N. Duvick2

Rf2, one of two major dominant genes needed to restore pollen fertility to the T-type of cytoplasmic pollen sterile maize (Zea mays L.), has been shown to be located on chromosome 9, approximately 5 crossover units from waxy endosperm (wx) and adjacent to the centromere. Results from tests involving chromosomal translocations and tests involving marker genes were in complete agreement.

Key Words: Translocations • Linkage testers • Gene placement
