Relationships Among Genomes in Certain Avena Species — A Review1

R. A. Forsberg and H. L. Shands2

The breeding and cytological behavior of 6x Avena amphiploids and of amphiploid x A. sativa L. F1 hybrids and their derivatives depend on the genomes involved and their interrelationships. Inter- and intragenome relationships among certain Avena species are reviewed to aid in the interpretation of experimental results to be reported in subsequent papers from the Wisconsin Station.

Key Words: Oats • Polyploid series • Phylogeny • Amphiploids • Karyotype • Chromosome homology • Gene transfer
