Influence of Alien Cytoplasms on Yield of Grain in Zea mays L.1

G. F. Sprague and J. H. McGahen2

Sixteen alien sources of maize and one of teosinte were converted to B14 genotype, retaining the alien Cytoplasm. In some comparisons teosinte cytoplasm appeared to contribute to lower grain yields. There was no convincing evidence of important differences among the normal maize cytoplasms tested.

Key Words: corn • maize • teosinte
