Variance Components for Irrigated Seed Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) Yields Trials1

Benjamine H. Beard and George F. Worker, Jr.2

The variance components for varieties with years and locations were determined for irrigated seed flax yield tests. Estimated standard errors of a varietal mean for comparative purposes were calculated for different combinations of years and replications. Testing 4 years with 6 replications, or 5 years with 3 replications gave estimated standard errors of 1.8, a magnitude considered practical for these tests.
