Immature kernels of five winter wheat varieties were germinate as fresh and as air-dried kernels at 7 C and 15 C in blotters and in soil. The kernels were collected at 3-day intervals from 15 days after anthesis until the kernels were ripe, about 39 days after anthesis.
Air-dried kernels (dried 3 days) germinate better than fresh kernels in the more immature stages. The 7 C temperature gave much higher germination than the 15 C temperature, particularly for air-dried kernels.
