Effect of Kernel Position on Oil Content in Corn (Zea mays L. )1

Amount of oil per kernel in maize is affected by position on the ear. Kernels highest in oil are located at mid-ear position. Due to larger mass, the basal kernels possess a greater total amount of oil than the kernels of the central and tip positions.
