Effect of Kernel Position on Oil Content in Corn (Zea mays L. )¹

Amount of oil per kernel in maize is affected by position on the ear. Kernels highest in oil are located at mid-ear position. Due to larger mass, the basal kernels possess a greater total amount of oil than the kernels of the central and tip positions.
