Vernstein — a Triticum aestivum Derivative with Vernal-Emmer-type Stem Rust Resistance1

N. H. Luig and I. A. Watson2

A factor for resistance to wheat stem rust present in the T. durum variety ‘C.I. 7778‘ and transferred to a T. aestivum genotype resembles the gene Srd 1,v of ‘Vernal Emmet.’ In crosses with the susceptible variety ‘W 2691’ this factor is transmitted differentially. Seed of tile derived hexaploid Vernstein is available on request. The nature of other genes derived from C.I. 7778 is also discussed
