The coumestrol content of 4 clones of alfalfa free of foliar pathogens ranged from 6 to 25 ppm. Expressed as percent of control, uterotrophic activity ranged from 105 to 182. These data indicated that differences for coumestrol content and uterotrophic activity could be demonstrated in Medicago sativa clones in the absence of foliar disease symptoms.
