The feasibility of evaluating seed samples from single plants of durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L.) for semolina color was examined by comparing the relative precision of different combinations of sample sizes and milling methods. Four sample size and mill combinations were used with 10 durum cultivars. The 200-g sample size milled on the Brabender Quadramat Micromill was the most sensitive test. Data were highly correlated with those from 2- and 1-g sample sizes milled on the Udy Cyclotec mill (r = 0.85 and 0.90, respectively). Consequently, screening for semolina color using 2- or 1-g samples should be effective.
