Precise Back-Saving Transplanter for Small Potted Plants1

Glenn W. Burton2

A transplanter that permits the operators to stand erect as they precisely set small potted plants in the field is described. Some 6,500 potted seedlings of bahiagrass, Paspalum notatum Flugge., set in the field with this homemade tool in mid-April 1975 were transplanted with little shock and grew off so uniformly and rapidly that it was possible to complete a cycle of recurrent reciprocal phenotypic selection in 1 year instead of 2 years generally required.

Key Words: Paspalum notatum Flugge. • Bahiagrass • Cynodon sp. L. • Bermudagrass • Recurrent restricted phenotypic selection (RRPS)
