Variability within Gossypium hirsutum L. for Seedling Isocitratase Activity1

R. L. Scholl2

Seedlings of 23 accessions of Gossypium hirsutum L. were examined for isocitratase activity and fresh weight of plant axes. An eight-fold range of isocitratase activity was observed for these accessions (40 hours after germination); less variability was found among older seedlings (112 hours after germination). Isocitratase activity and the percentage of seedling fresh weight in the axis were very closely associatetd at 40 hours after germination (r =;0.866, significant at the 0.01 level).
