In a random-intercrossed population of burley tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), genetic variances were estimated using biparental progenies from noninbred plants, biparental progenies from doubled haploid plants, and selfprogenies from doubled haploid plants. Additive genetic variances were important for days to flower, plant height, leaf length, and number of leaves. Additive x additive genetic variances were indicated for yield and total alkaloids. For leaf width, the significant amounts of genetic variability among the full-sib families in both the noninbred and inbred parental material could not be resolved into specific functions of genetic variances. Dominance variance appeared to be absent.
