Solutions for growth equations that estimate dry matter from photosynthetic, respiratory, and photosynthetic area variables were tested by using field data for cotton (G. hirsutum L. var. Deltapine Smoothleaf). The equations based on assumptions of exponential leaf area expansion and exponential extraction of light by leaves fitted the data test. A leaf area expansion function that depends upon morphogeneticv ariables should improve the fit.
