Relationship between Genotype-Environmental Interaction and Stability Parameters

Fidel Marquez-Sanchez2

Phenotypic models with and without genotype-environment interaction ({gamma}I) are represented graphically. for a variety that is planted in several environments the model without interaction is represented as a regression line of phenotypic values on environmental indices, with a slope equal to one and no deviations from regression. In the model with interaction neither of these conditions is fulfilled. The interaction term {gamma}I is the deviation of actual phenotypic values from the regression line with slope equal to one, and {delta}I is the deviation of the phenotypic values from the adjusted regression line with slope different from one. A stable variety is defined as one which does not interact with environments.

Key Words: Environmental index • Stable variety
