Dynamic synthesis and utilization of adenosine triphosphate in embryos and seedlings of a fast-growing wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety, Yamhill, resulted in a higher overall energy level and energy charge than that of slower-growing Hyslop seedlings. The varietal difference in growth potential of seedlings appears to be related to energy metabolism and capacity of synthesis.
