Tolerance of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) varieties to the Beet Yellows Virus was associated with maintenance of low leaf resistances to the transport of gases during infection. In extreme cases net photosynthesis at light saturation was inversely related to leaf resistance. The potential usage of the constant pressure, mass flow porometer in selecting for maintenance of low leaf resistances was investigated.
