A diallel cross including reciprocals was performed on six random clones of smooth bromegrass (Bromus inermis Leyss.) to investigate differences for certain morphological traits. Differences among crosses were significant for plant height, leaf length, leaf width, panicle length, number of spikelets per panicle, number of florets per spikelet, number of panicles per plant, vigor, and plant type. for these traits the variance was partitioned info general, specific, maternal, and nonmaternal reciprocal effects. General combining ability was more important than specific combining ability for all traits except leaf width. Maternal effects were significant for plant height, leaf length, and panicle length. None of the nonmaternal reciprocal effects were significant. Both narrow and broad sense heritabilities were estimated.
