Samples of groat protein from 15 F2-derived oat lines from an interspecific cross (Avena sativa L. x Avena sterilis L.) were analyzed for amino acid composition. In general, these lines had higher percentages of the essential amino acids arginine, histidine, leucine, lysine and phenylalanine and lower threonine than those reported by other investigators. Groat protein of two lines contained over 8.0% lysine, an essential amino acid often deficient in cereal proteins.
Key Words: Avena sterilis opaque-2 corn A. sativa
