Disease Reaction of Thirty Sources of Cytoplasmiic Male-Sterile Corn to Helminthosporium Maydis Race T1

D. R. Smith, A. L. Hooker, S. M. Lim and J. B. Beckett2

Thirty source of cytoplasmic male sterile (cms) corn (Zea mays L.) were evaluated for their disease reaction to H. maydis race T. Plants with cms-B, -C, -CA, -D, -EK, -F, -G, .H, -I, -IA, "J, -K, -L, -M, -ME, -ML, -MY, -PS, -R, -RB, -S, -SD, -TA, -VG, and -W designations were resistant. Four sources, cms-HA, -P, -Q, and -T, were susceptible. Differences in disease reaction were observed on seedlings in the form of lesion type and on field-grown adult plants in the form of lesion type and lesion number.

Key Words: Southern corn blight
